Fall Must Have: Prints

Prints make their reappearance in the fashion life cycle quite often, and this season is no exception. If you haven’t seen it already, prints, specifically animal prints, are everywhere for the Fall. Clutches, shoes, leg wear and form fitting dresses are the perfect way to infuse the trend into your wardrobe.

Out of the box tip: Use a print, such as a brown/deep yellow leopard print item as an unlikely “neutral” when creating your palette and build around it. You will be amazed at what you can come up with.

Mobile Fashion Week Styling for C K Collection

Its always a pleasure to participate in fashion events, but its even sweeter when the boutiques and designers that you work with are remarkable.  Amongst all of the boutiques I styled this year, C K Collection and I got to work together for the second time.  The boutique paraded Valentino Red, Marc Jacobs, Missoni and über amazing Chloé boots around the runway for Fall 2012. C. K. Collection had a sensational selection of textures, metallics and accessories to pull from.

Featured here are 10 of the 12 looks from concept to implementation.  The snapshots are iPhone images after we determined the core looks we wanted to show, pulled our model profiles, coordinated the lineup based on looks and models, and put it in place.

Its no wonder that CK is regarded as one of the most preeminent boutiques on the Gulf Coast— hands down.  A special thanks to Beth and Susi for always being joys to work with.

A Few Key Items for Fall 2012

These are three of my favorite purchases from the trek overseas.  All three are functional and stylish, yet have a sense of easygoing-ness about them.

Dune Leopard Flat: Functional & Funky [55 British pounds]

This was probably one of my favorite items from Top Shop in London.  I use leopards and other prints as neutrals these days, and this flat pairs perfectly with skinny ankle length jeans or shorts with tights.  Extremely versatile.

Zara Military-Style Coat: A timeless wardrobe staple with contoured tailoring [Zara, 119 euros]

This military-inspired coat is offered in a deep navy and a dark gray tweed.  The fit is impeccable and the length is perfect.  It layers over a pencil skirt, allowing the hem of the skirt to peak from underneath.  The coat effortlessly dresses up denim, a sleek tee and heels for a “I didn’t try, but I feel delectable” look.

Peplum Skirt from Zara: Embrace the season’s trend that goes from work to the evening ballet [29.95 euros]

If you take advantage of one trend this season, make it this one: the peplum skirt or dress.  I picked this one up in Paris and you can find them everywhere, at all price points.   The trick:  get a material that is heavier than a jersey knit; the skirt shouldn’t be too thin.  The magic is in the silhouette of the slim skirt, and voluminous tiering from the waist.

Fall 2012 & Spring 2013 for Mobile Fashion Week [ September 3-8, 2012]

Ladies and Gentlemen, the city of Mobile is being infused with fashion this week!!!  I could not have been more honored than to host the Art of Fashion, and now I get to work behind the scenes for Mobile Fashion Week!  As stylists, we know that its a lot of work but we get tickles as we stay up late nights to prepare our looks, complete layouts and make sure that everything is in order.  We are charmed that we have great designers and boutiques participating in this week’s events.  I’ve worked with CK Collection on their ensembles that will be showcased and they are nothing less than full of Fall 2012– textures, a mixture of neutral palettes and bright colored highlights.  It gives me goose bumps every time I walk off of Fairhope Avenue into the boutique.  There are some Rachel Roy and Missoni pieces that you’d die for.

The main runway shows will be Friday and Saturday, with all designers showcasing on Saturday night at Space 301.  A haute-inspired show will exhibit I Do Bridal and Formal.  Friday night’s show will be held at the historic Fort Conde Inn.  Thursday night is an advantageous opportunity to visit the Mobile Arts Council of Downtown Mobile and experience a boutique-style model presentation; reminiscent of the intimate style of Christian Dior in the 1940’s.  This year’s designer lines include:

William Bradley

Janie G. Couture

Kimberly Noland Designs

Ellena LeJeune

If you have seen our editorial photo shoots, you know you’re in for a treat.  Now if I can only convince Richard and John Ross to agree to couture antlers as model headpieces, we might be on to something……..

The Art of Fashion is a Success!

The Host of the Art of Fashion

[Photos are courtesy of E. F. Hunter of BrandMe Media]

Congratulations to Julie Causey and Darnell Jones of Ju Ju Beez Models and Talent for a well executed event!!!As the host, I was delighted to see everything go well!  VH1 star K. Michelle did a great performance, and the designers provided great Fall 2012 designs!

I wore a vintage royal purple jumpsuit from online boutique Trendi Confessions, and the Gina blouse from Sacred Hearts Collection.  The blouse pairs perfectly with a pencil skirt or pants (TI’s wife Tiny wore it below with black trousers).  It was the perfect look for the night!

The show featured the following designers:

Jamie Boggs of Trendi Confessions

Natasha Dancy of Diva Fab

Maria Allen of Made by Maria

Brandi Russel of Sacred Heart Collections

Jorita Johnson of Planet Jag

Zathan Marcs of Zathan Marcs

Pictures of the runway show will follow, but we are preparing for Mobile Fashion Week and London Fashion Week, so I can’t promise them within the next week!!

Look of the Day: Mix High & Low for Great Travel Looks

Look of the Day [Travel 2012]

So here’s the dilemma: I will finish styling the last show for Mobile Fashion Week next Saturday, and then hit the road as soon as we finish to catch the plane to Paris. The beauty is that this season is full of items that are interchangeable to create amazing looks, with a few key pieces. What better way than to mix higher end pieces with affordable items that have great sustainability.

The featured piece is this jacket I have from last season that BCBG has re-created for Fall 2012. My version is created with a wool blend, so unbuttoned, its not too hot. Buttoned up-its perfectly warm! The jacket’s versatility allows it to go from being paired with denim, to being paired with a pencil skirt and slingback pumps.

The Lespring Messenger is the perfect, cross body travel bag. It can be carried by the handle or worn with the strap. It carries an iPad, iPhone, camera, passport and license and small toiletries perfectly.

Two great buys: Forever 21’s skinny denim, and Mossimo’s ballet flats. Both items retail for under $20, but are excellent pieces to mix. The jeans aren’t too bulky and work well with tunics, shorter dresses, and layered looks, because the denim is crafted to be thinner. The jeans come in a variety of washes [a dark gray is featured here]. The ballet flats also come in numerous colors; depending on your need for support for long days, inserts may need to be considered.

Best of all, the items effortlessly represent Pantone’s color trends for the Fall.

Look of The Day- Monochromatic Appeal

Look of The Day- Casual Friday
Casual Fridays in the corporate world don’t mean that you always have to wear a polo style shirt and khakis (I’ve actually never been that girl).  For the fall season, embrace the monochromatic appeal of head to toe neutrals.  Add a little color with accessories, or keep it simple with diamond studs and great bracelets.  If the blouse is a bit much, a cream, jersey v-neck will do the trick as well.

Look of the Day

Look of the Day
Even though its still summer, I’m anxious to start pulling pieces in Pantone’s fall color palette.  The colors are so inviting that pairing them is a must.  For this look: try using a print and add in pantone’s Rose Smoke and Tangerine Tango (so fabulous it has carried over from the spring!).  The only down side for those of us state side: the jacket can’t be delivered to the US, so you’ll have to get it when you’re overseas!
